Men's league in Missoula (Thursday May 28, 2010)
1. First day of men's league soccer in Missoula - which for me was first real game back from knee injury.
2. Travis' asked me to be his officiant for their wedding
3. Beers and Al's and Vic's with the boys but left early with Jeremy.
Start of men's league soccer is the start of summer in Missoula. I am not sure how much longer I will be playing especially if we continue down the path we where going down last night. Ugly soccer compounded by a couple of knuckleheads on our team yelling at each other.
Excited about being Travis' officiant. Have some work to do this weekend but should have a bit of down time to put some thoughts on paper for them.

Start of Soccer season (Tuesday May 25th, 2010)
Long day at work - crunching away at numbers and POP3 email accounts not that much fun.
1. First Co-rec soccer game played since the knee injury last year
2. Wings and beer with good friends at Pfalls
3. Made it through the day without sweets
Tuesday - not a bad day at all.

Life is fragile (Monday May, 24th)
Christy Parrot passed away on Saturday. While we were not good friends I knew her in the soccer community of Missoula and played soccer with her husband Doug. She died of an incurable brain tumor which is to say life is unfair. My thoughts and prayers are with Doug and their daughters.
Sunday May 23rd
Mellow Sunday...rivers are all blown out, wasn't motivated to go skiing and really didn't have anyone to go with. Priority was to get the house/car needs taken care of. Let me go down the list of what I did - up late (8ish), went to store to get paper, big breakfast, read paper on couch and chilled, showered, took truck to Firestone to get studs off, worked on road bike, went for 5 mile run, started/finished laundry including the ironing of shirts, started to organize fly-tying room/office and then watched the Mets beat the Yankee's 6 to 4. While no major adventures it was still a good Sunday.
1. Had a productive day (see above)
2. Good journal entry
3. Mets beat the Yankees 6 to 4

Running day (Saturday May 22nd)
Slept past 630am for the first time in a few months. I attribute this laziness to the 4 beers consumed Friday night and the fact that I stayed up until about 2am. Never the less I got up cleaned the house then went for a 10 mile run. Definitely one of my better runs. Running makes the day better, it is a stress relief, it is exercise, it gives me a sense of accomplishment and keeps my mind clear from distractions.
Positives today will be about running.
1. 10 mile run in the hills around my house.
2. Finished strong with a good stride
3. Calves, although tight, felt good - less and less soreness

Cheese Grater (Monday May 17th)
Positive things aren't exactly popping up left and right, but I do have a lot to be thankful for and will focus on that.
1. Mowed the lawn
2. Relaxed at home with a movie after a busy day
3. Purchased a cheese grater
My house/Kitchen is really empty for the most part. I find that I don't need many things but I did need a cheese grater. While I won't go as far to say that it's an "essential" household item, it certainly makes cooking Mexican food better.

IPA? what was I thinking (Sunday May 16th)
a few too many IPA's lead to a couple of shots of Jameson which eventually lead to drunk texting and a hangover. Still got up on Sunday to fish at 730am, not sure why I choose to punish myself like that. Thinking it will be a dry week.
1. I am still alive
2. I caught a big brown trout (24")
3. Texts from Austen

Saturday, May 15th
going to Helena today...wuhoo...should be more excited than I am but need to go.
1. Good run - 8 or 9 miles and felt good - not great but good
2. Got to drink Blackfoot IPA (turned out I drank too much...)
3. Quiet time in the car
Saturday was a good day. Got my butt kicked at cribbage which was par for the course considering my excellent form of late.

Friday May 15th
Friday positives - the easiest positive would be that its Friday - but I feel like I can do better than that.
1. BBQ with friends at MY house
2. Left work early - always a good think
3. Lunch with Jamie
Made for a pretty good Friday!
Attempted to play soccer but tweaked my hamstring so only played about 20 min worth of 3v3...maybe next week.

Thursday 5-13-10
Felt like I had a decent nights sleep. I am concerned that I will be having another long summer of sleepless nights this summer brought on by myself and some interesting choices. Time will tell, time will tell.
1. Beers and good conversation at Khouse North with Austen
2. Good journal entries
3. Octopussy was on TV.
A good James Bond movie always makes things alright.

Some days are better than others (May 12, 2010)
Some days are better that others. Take today for example, I swam in the morning, ran at night, had beers with Sky and actually slept for longer that two hours in a row. I also got a portion of my appetite back which for me is a must have! If we don't have bad days/weeks/months/years how do we appreciate the good ones?
1. Beers with Sky
2. Appetite returning (not sure if it will stick but its a start)
3. Learning to be concerned about others happiness not just my own.

Be careful what you wish for (Tuesday May 11th)
was in a bit of a funk all day, this Brooke thing is weighing me down, but its my doing and my fault. Be careful what you wish for, usually not what you want.
1. Continued self reflection - another sleepless night but I feel like I am working through my issues.
2. Great first night of ping pong at the Lurgio's (6-3 in my favor)
3. Started my journals - confident my original idea for one journal will not work out, and I think I am ok with that.
Lift -
legs/abs/arms - standard Tuesday work out!

Monday May 10th
Another day where the positives aren't easy to find, guess that's why I am doing this have to stay positive regardless of the situation.
1. Did some pretty good self reflection and have some changes to make in my life.
2. Determined to get a running journal going.
3. Got all my shirts ironed - thought that would never happen.
Slept a bit better last night, still up more that I want to be. Amazing how awake I feel at 4am in the morning.

Sunday May 9th
I am not sure that I have ever lost my appetite. I did on Sunday morning after receiving a text from Brooke. Didn't finish breakfast, didn't eat lunch, struggled to drink water. No communication so she has complete closure. I will respect that. Haven't felt like this since Courtney gave me the shove. This one is my fault though as I pushed Brooke away first.
Tough, I mean really tough to find positives today.
1. Run with Wylie - 6 or 7 miles up Butler Creek, felt strong running it.
2. Steak dinner with the Grasky's (their new floor looks amazing)
3. Got the house more organized and clean
The really tough part is the weekend before we spend a good chunk of time together on Saturday, Stella riding her bike, playing games in the back yard. Now I cannot contact her at all.

Saturday May 8th 2010
Ran in the morning - 9.5 miles or so - bad idea after giving blood. Almost passed out at Great harvest when I stopped in to see Austen. She feed me chocolate milk which helped with the blood sugar. I also stopped by Brooke's apt to see her and see if she read my email. She requested time to process -
1. Survived a tough run
2. Got lawn raked and mowed (pain in the butt getting pine cones off the lawn!)
3. Dinner with the Stantons
Late night with little sleep. Hoping all day to hear from Brooke.

the weekend
I have grown to love the weekend since becoming a 9 to 5er. Not sure how much longer I will survive the 9 to 5 routine but for now it will work
Friday April 30th -
1. Wylie Carr completed his Masters Defense - congrats Wylie!
2. Free Blackfoot IPA and Pizza at Finn and Porter!!!
3. Got out of work early -
Saturday May 1rst - MAY DAY!!!
1. Great 10.6 mile trail run - kicked my butt
2. Breakfast with Joel, Andrea, Sky, Jamie, Tyler Bodie, Kaitlyn
3. Brew-fest with Jamie -
Workout - 10.6 mile trail run - mucho mucho hills
Brew-fest is an interesting concept in Missoula. Quite a few people are there to taste new and different beers and enjoy the atmosphere of music, food and good people. Quite a few people are there to get complete plowed or "pie eyed" to quote Brooke. Makes for an interesting dynamic - we were there for the good atmosphere and tasty brew. Learned that Jamie likes IPAs - always good to have an IPA buddy!
Sunday 2nd
1. Early morning run - shorter but good to get up early and get the run out of the way
2. Decided on purchasing an 8 weight rod for steel-heading and salmon fishing
3. Found some new water with friends on the Bitterroot (east tucker access, downstream)
Weather for fishing -
low 50's partly cloudy/sunny - strong winds, water temps around 47 degrees. Was difficult to pin point a hatch due to the wind, plenty of Grey drakes and BWO's in the water and plenty of fishing rising to emergers or cripples. Need to explore that water in more detail.
Seems to me that is a good weekend.
